Background and goals of the Symposium

Environmental change brings new threats to humanity. Urbanisation, the movement of persons and property, migration and climate change promote the proliferation of diseases, both known and new, which may suddenly turn into a global epidemic.

These facts have led to much research and scientific thought being given to the global development of our society.

The commitment of the Principality of Monaco and of the Sovereign Prince with regard to environmental change and the combat against disease is akin to the concerns and mission of the Institut Pasteur over the past 120 years.

The purpose of this symposium is to address the need for an integrated vision of health and environmental issues and to set up interdisciplinary dialogue involving researchers in biomedical and social science.
